Grants for college students slashed!

50 Grants for college students was eliminated by Bush budget this year. There are going to be fewer grants for going back to college thanks to the new budget! Education programs were slashed by 50 programs. Learning what remains untouched and how to get college grants remains more important than ever. After the traditional Monday release of the president's new budget, reaction is strong in sectors bearing the brunt of the some 150 federal programs that are in line to be eliminated. Although the budget includes a long-awaited boost to the Pell Grant program, overall, some 50 programs killed, including several major ones: Some of the grants include: The Perkins Loan Program that provides loans to low-income students; the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education program, which provides funding for career programs at community colleges; and the Gear Up, Upward Bound and Talent Search programs that help low-income, middle- and high-school students prepare for college. We will produce a number of articles analyzing the extent and the effect of the proposed cuts and how they relate to you.
