Linking and e-mail

Linking and e-mail by Robert Nixon

You may be thinking what do links and e-mail have in common? YOUR domain, that is your very on url (universal resource locator) address is where you want visits. Just as your incoming and outgoing links should be to and from your domain, your e-mail should be also.

For example: http://www.cpucash.net and http://www.cpucash.net/health.html are both pages from MY very own domain (cpucash.net). My e-mail is also, info@cpucash.net and robert@cpucash.net,among others.

Your better hosting companies will have what is called 'web mail' in place so you can activate it and use if you desire. The benefit is that you can access your mail from anywhere and have tons of e-mail addresses. AND IT IS MORE PROFESSIONAL TO HAVE YOUR E-MAIL FROM YOUR DOMAIN. It means you are serious about your business.

I have separate ones for list e-mail addresses to my safelist, for junk mail when I submit to FFA's, for confirmations from search engines and the like. This also keeps my home PC clear of spam and the possible hacker attempt ( I have MSN spyware and Norton anti-everything (system works) on my computer so that is very unlikely). I check my e-mail on the web, get rid of the bad or un-wanted, and then open up my outlook at the PC to get what I need from the mailbox. ( it is easy to set your outlook to get mail from your domain including putting in the password needed ). As we know spamers have 'random' name generators that put hundreds of to and from phony addresses on their spam from your e-mail locator. Every wonder where the 'could not send' messages come from that may say godzilla@xpu.com ( when xpu.com is your domain)? Think you are the only one at risk, I bet many hostng company servers have been hacked and are generating spam too, with out their knowledge as you read this.

Anyway, when exchanging links with other sites, both of you will want a good e-mail for personal contact and another good one contact purposes, if needed for more info. The reason I say two ( and you don't have to do this) is because I always like to see if the one or the other gets compromised and starts sending me spam.

Links are a good way to increase your site's ranking and come in two types: Temporary and long lasting ( notice I do not say forever here). Within these two types are good and better.

The better ones are ones to established businesses that are well known, such as MSN, or any 500 company. You know these will be long lasting. The good ones are to the other linking sites ( but here you will want to check after a period of time to see if your link is still with them).

Now I am talking about the ones that require you to enter some sort of html code that will show their banner, box or what ever on your site page that you want them to link to.

Example:

The following puts a box on my page that one can 'click' on to submit to various search engines free. All they see is a box that says ' Free Web Submissions, etc'

Submit Your Site To The Web's Top 50 Search Engines for Free!

If your linking to some sort of engine then a person will not visit your site, they will send a spider that will check for the link back by searching the codes of the pages of your domain ( here it is critical to have some good meta tags with spider instructions, like how often to re-visit and what to check).

The first one tells the spider to visit every 15 days at the least, the second one tells it to check everything. The other two are self explaining.

Since you have your own domain, you have separate pages for in depth coverage of an item from a link at your main site page ( the one people first see when the enter your domain( the index, home or default page). On that page is where you will insert the link, unless, of course you WANT it on your main page, but that will clutter the page and maybe cause it to load slowly. If you do this, put the links at the bottom. I put most of my links on my site page at: http://www.cpucash.net/freestuff.html

Other types of links are the ones you put on your page going to other pages inside your domain, or to other sites using your 'hyperlink' coding functions. You have seen these as a 'click here' or a line of text with an underline. When you establish this type make sure you set it to open in a new window, that way when they leave that link, they are back at your site page they left to visit the link from. You should remember that the time they have your site open on their browser counts as 1. time on site 2. pages visited and 3. download amts.

Example:

The following sends a person to one of my FFA pages to submit their url. All they see is the text 'Cpu Cash Biz Opp FFA' underlined.

The Cpu Cash Biz Opp FFA

The longer someone is at your site and looking at different pages means they are serious and may purchase an item. Maybe not the first time but chances are they will bookmark the site page they are interested in ( that is save it as a favorite on their browser) and come back again. I do this all the time and I am sure you do to. This is also where having a contact e-mail on that page is very important. To you, having your domain e-mail box for that page only lets you know where your traffic is coming from and if you have to re-do the page because of non-productivity, if you don't get any responses after a period of time. Example: if you go to my Ameriplan page at http://www.cpucash.net/health.html The contact e-mail there is ameriplan@cpucash.net

Having a link to your site in your articles ( or in the about the author section) will also show up in the search engines and increase your ranking because of DEPTH. This is how many separate pages from your domain or pointing to it are indexed.

When you find a site you want to link to and write the webmaster or owner for permission to establish a link, you may find they may become a client of yours too. You never know, but you do know they will check out your site before granting permission to see if it will benefit them to have their link on your site.
